Scots Pine Butterfly Lamp

A sculpture inspired by the history and future of my family and myself
My family is historically from Scotland, and my fourth great grandparents came over from the Isle of Danna in 1803. I selected the Scots pine to model my tree after because it’s native to the area and has a lifespan of 300 years. Some of the trees that my family members interacted with may still be alive.

The butterflies are modeled after the Common Blue, a butterfly native to Scotland.
I chose to employ 3D printing and laser cutting in this project in order to create an homage to my family's past using methods that haven't been available to anyone before me. I wanted to fold my history into my future to create something beautiful.
